US systematically creating tensions in Middle East: Analyst

Elshen Manafov told IRNA on Monday that the US government is trying hard to prevent any kind of unity and solidarity among the Islamic countries in the region and to provoke division among them.

Manafov said that Donald Trump’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia and striking of a 110-billion-dollar deal between Washington and Riyadh are in line with the US policies aimed at creating divisions among Islamic countries and securing its interests.

“Washington is deeply worried about the cooperation between Iran and Russia and considers it as an obstacle on the way of achieving its ominous goals,” he said.

He also said that Saudi Arabia and some other Arab countries in the region are totally dependent on the US and they remain to be instruments in Washington’s hand helping it promote its policies across the region.

The Azeri political analyst added that one of the goals of Trump’s trip to the region was to create a new Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia to stand against Iran and some other regional nations.

This, if happened, could bring forth undesired consequences for the region, Manafov said.

The current situations in Libya, Iraq and Syria are the outcome of US destructive policies in the region, he added.

As long as the countries of the region do not take steps toward real unity and solidarity, the United States is going to benefit from the situation and that is not expected to bring anything good for the region, said Manafov.
