US senator says Trump has 'debased' the presidency: American newspaper

The country's strongest enemies could not hurt the US more than 'we are hurting ourselves,' said Jeff Flake adding that 'we may have hit bottom,' The Hill has reported.

'When a figure in power reflexively calls any press that does not suit him ‘fake news,’ it is that person who should be the figure of suspicion, not the press,' Flake said while criticizing Trump for his continuing attacks on the media.

As the American newspaper wrote, Flake said his criticism of the president makes him no less Republican; instead, he called it an act of patriotic loyalty.

US President Donald Trump announced his decision about the Iran Deal on May 8 and unilaterally pulled his country out of the Iran nuclear deal as an international agreement. Many world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have voiced their opposition to Trump's decision.

Following Trump's anti-Iran moves, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made baseless accusations against Iran on May 21. Some Iranian officials in response to those anti-Iran words said they are not even worth being answered.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described on Wednesday Pompeo's accusations against Iran as hit-and-miss which were far from civility and logic.
