US playing blame game by calling Iran 2013 poll unfair

During an interview on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani reacted to a report by saying that elections in Iran remain to be free, healthy, competitive and democratic.

“I think those who are critical of the elections in Iran had better look at their recent elections and all the problems caused by it in their country,” President Rouhani reportedly said, responding to comments by American officials.

The 2013 Presidential elections in Iran was held while some governments and media in the West launched a campaign to disrupt the election process in the country by recounting events taking place following the 2009 presidential elections and protests against the poll results.

Their goal was clear: disappointing people and provoking them not to participate in the upcoming elections, portraying elections in the Islamic Republic as being undemocratic and planning to create election unrest in the country.

Surprisingly, following two months of the most tumultuous elections in the US history that brought the Republican businessman Donald Trump to power, the fledgling US administration is trying to blame Iran for holding a so-called unhealthy and unfair presidential elections in 2013.

This is while, repercussions of the controversial US presidential elections are still felt not only in the US but also across the world, even provoking Washington’s friends to show reaction.

The 2016 presidential elections saw denunciation of the Electoral College system, while Trump and the Democratic contender Bernard 'Bernie' Sanders described the US political and administrative system as corrupt.

Also, it was in the US presidential elections that a rift was created between the Democrats and Republicans as well as the US public who appeared to be increasingly disappointed by the election results.

With Trump assuming power, the United States saw setbacks in its dealings with the international system and tensions started showing up regarding the country’s role in international treaties, like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Paris Climate Pact.

Too, Trump’s election saw a rise of tensions in ties between the US and its neighbors and allies in Latin America, Europe, Asia and especially in China.

The fledgling president alleged that there was a widespread voter fraud in the election and the US poll was rigged.

“People that have died 10 years ago are still voting,” Trump claimed.

Apparently, Trump and the new US administration, faced with overwhelming legitimacy challenge both domestically and abroad, are trying to go on playing a blame game and deviate the public opinion from current policies adopted by the White House.

Attempts aimed at censuring Iran’s presidential elections in 2013 is another game of blame played by Washington.

But clearly and apart from all the political gaming, it goes without saying that the 2013 elections in Iran promoted regional peace and stability and it was hailed by world countries.

In contrast, the main consequence of 2016 presidential elections in the US was the spread of anxiety and apprehension across the world, worrying even the US friends.
