US aggression against Syria will receive resolute response: Envoy

Ali made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA on Wednesday at a time when the possibility of US aggression on Syria has increased and Ali himself believed such an attack was probable.

The Syrian envoy described US and West’s recent threats against Syria as a reflection of its defeat in Ghouta, saying that such threats are made after the terrorists were purged from around Damascus, a move which disappointed the US and West.

The aggressive forces had pinned hope on the terrorists, he said.

A full-fledged war against Syria is unrealistic, he said, noting that even a limited aggression against the country will prove detrimental to the aggressors, as they will receive decisive response.

He further noted that Syria, Iran and Russia’s response to any aggression will be strong and resolute, as they are determined to stand against aggression.

Pointing to Russian stance in the face any attack, the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon said that position of top-ranking Russian officials including President Vladimir Putin and commander of the country’s army have been clear, as they said if a missile is fired against the Russian and Syrian forces, they will respond it decisively.

Ali also quoted Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin as saying that Russians will intercept the missiles to be fired at Syria and they will even fire back at their launch sites.

Although the US is a big power and is able to launch attacks, Russia is also powerful, he said, noting that any attack will not go unanswered.

Ali also described alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government as a lie and undocumented, noting that the allegations were made after the West and its allies’ calculations turned out to be wrong in practice.

The Syrian envoy stressed that his country has best ties with its allies.
