UN says won’t play role in Iraqi Kurdish referendum

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement that 'It has no intention to be engaged in any way or form as concerns the referendum, to be held on 25 September', UNIraq.org wrote.

On Wednesday (June 14), a meeting was held attended by several Iraqi Kurdish parties and Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani.

During the meeting the date for the independence referendum was set for Monday, Sept. 25, 2017.

Meanwhile, the members of Kurdistan Islamic Movement as well as the Change Movement were absent in the meeting.

The decision has been made while all the Kurdish parties have not taken a united stance regarding the referendum.
