Trump’s tweet on Syria, continuity of US hegemonic designs in ME: Pak analyst

In an interview with IRNA, Syed Qandil Abbas, Professor of Politics and International Relations at Qauid-e-Azam University said that the US has failed to achieve its certain hegemonic goals in Syria so now Americans are trying to destroy peace in this region.

He added that the presence of Iran and Russia in the region provides an opportunity to have peaceful environment in the area as both countries are able to counter extremists in Syria.

The analyst was of the view that Trump wants to create instability in the region so that the US could sell more and more of its weapons to the regional countries.

“They are already supplying a lot of weapons and other sources to Saudi Arabia and some other countries to have their influence in the region and certainly this step of the US will create more instability,” he noted.

Qandil Abbas went on to say that the US is trying to destroy the peace of the region by creating imbalance of power in the area.

He said 'we have terrorist activities in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, because these countries are trying to challenge the US hegemony' in the region.

“The US is trying to strengthen dictatorial kingdoms to counter public movements,” he viewed.

He added that the response of international community over the situation of Syria is very weak and pathetic.

“The UN is responsible for the peace all over the world, but the international body has failed to play positive role in Syria,” the analyst asserted.

“We are facing extremist role from American side in Syria,” he said.
