Trump not authorized to cancel nuclear deal: Pakistani analyst

In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Pervaiz Iqbal Cheema, dean of Faculty of Contemporary Studies (FCS) at the National Defense University, said the nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was reached after marathon meetings and long negotiations between Iran and P5+1 and the US cannot end this agreement based on its own wishes.

“After certain compromise all parties agreed to the JCPOA, a deal which is now reconsidered by the Americans, in other words Iranians are sticking to the conditions of the deal whereas the Americans are not as they want to revise it,” he said.

The analyst said that American authorities want to revise the agreement to an extant so that it becomes totally unacceptable for Iran. “This is not a right thing to do but everybody knows about the nature of Trump,” he said.

Cheema added that if Trump can pull out of the environmental deal and does not support the environmental problems in Paris conference, so one can understand that he can do such things although it may not be in the interest of the international community.

The analyst said the statement given by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani saying that Tehran will remain committed to the nuclear deal as long as it serves the country’s national interests is absolutely right and based on principles.

“Iran is committed to the deal and is abiding by the condition of the deal. Iran is not going to be pressurized to change the deal according to the American wishes,” he said.

The analyst added if the Americans come out of the deal which is not possible, the logical reaction of the Europeans countries should be to disassociate from the American line of thinking and pursue their own one.
