Threatening Syria meant to sell more weapons in region: Official

Special Aide to Majlis (parliament) speaker for international affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmud.

Amir-Abdollahian added that Syria is in the front line of resistance against the Zionist regime and also is fighting against terrorism which is an honor in contemporary history.

He pointed to the importance of reciprocal parliamentary visits, and said that delegations from both countries are to pay reciprocal visits soon.

Referring to common stances of Tehran and Moscow, Amir-Abdollahian underlined that cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in helping Syria against the terrorist groups will continue.

The special aide for Majlis speaker said since beginning of Syrian crisis, the first priority of Syrian enemies were to eliminate President Bashar al-Assad, the legitimate president of the country.

'In spite of this, Iran underlined on political negotiation and holding talks to settle the crisis, since beginning of the problem.'

He said that any baseless pretext of the US, Saudi Arabia and the Zionist regime to persuade resorting to force is uncalculated, hasty move, which persuade terrorists.

Adnan Mahmud, for his part, pointed to the growing trend of cooperation between Iran and Syria, and said that Iran has very important position in the region and its role in the region is undeniable.

The US and west aim to decrease Iran's role and influence in the region, but wise decisions of the supreme leader neutralized this move, he said.

He applauded Iran’s supports for Syria and pointed to Tehran-Damascus close stances before many regional developments, saying Iran is playing an important role in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Syria and the region.

Referring to existing strategic capacities in Iran and Syria, Mahmud called all-out cooperation in political, economic, security, cultural and parliamentary fields important.

The Syrian ambassador to Tehran said that common strategy and continuation of trilateral consultations between Tehran, Moscow and Damascus will help to settle crisis and fulfill common interests.
