
Mussa Esmaeili, who is in charge of the reconstruction operations of holy shrines in Samara, told IRNA that two suicide bombers blown up themselves near buses of the Iranian pilgrims in a parking lot in Samarra.
Two women and five men were killed in the attack. The Iranian pilgrims had come from different parts of Iran, including Sistan and Baluchestan and Isfahan provinces, the official said.
A number of the injured Iranian pilgrims have been heli boarded to Baghdad hospitals to receive medical treatment.
The number of casualties is expected to be on rise as some of the injured Iranian pilgrims are in grave health conditions.
A team of Iran's Embassy in Baghdad was present the site of the incident immediately to follow up the incident and help transport the Iranian wounded.
