Tehran to host next Syria peace talks

Delegations from Iran, Turkey and Russia, the three main countries of Astana talks on Syria, issued a joint statement in the Kazakh capital on Thursday underlining the need to keep the ceasefire regime established in the war-hit country.

The statement also said that discussions have been made on international support for minesweeping operations in Syria’s historical sites registered in UNESCO.

Confidence-building measures as well as efforts to find a lasting settlement to the crisis in Syria were also on the agenda of discussions.

The statement said that the two-day expert-level talks will begin in Tehran on April 18 and the high-level talks will be held in Astana on May 3-4.

Representatives from the Syrian government, the opposition groups and other parties involved (the observers) can also be invited to the next round of talks, the statement added.
