Tehran eager to expand economic ties with Manila: Iran President

While receiving a copy of the credentials letter of new Ambassador of the Philippines to Iran Wilfredo Santos, President Rouhani said, 'Undoubtedly, familiarity between private sectors in the two countries and getting to know each other's capacities better, are very effective in strengthening economic relations between Iran and the Philippines.'

President Rouhani also referred to the achievements made by the Philippines in its fight against terrorism, and added, 'I hope that we can all emerge victorious in the fight against terrorism and curb the global problem and finally eradicate it'.

In the meantime, Santos said, 'Today, we feel the need more than ever to cement our relations with Tehran, especially in the economic and investment spheres'.

He added, 'I hope that with the joint fight against terrorism, we will see complete destruction of terrorism around the world'.

Referring to the upcoming ASEAN Summit in his country, Santos expressed hope for Iran to attend the semiannual meeting held by the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in November.

The ASEAN leaders meet to address issues related to economic and cultural development of Southeast Asian countries.
