Serbian FM expresses condolences on coal mine explosion in Iran

“I sorrowfully received the sad news of mine explosion in Iran in which a group of people lost their lives. I am greatly concerned about the lives of miners still trapped underground,” the message reads, according to Belgrade media.

“I would like to express my deepest condolences to you, your government and families of the victims, ” he said in the message.

I am quite confident that the rescue workers who lost their lives have accomplished their courageous mission, he said.

Serbian people sincerely voice sympathy with the bereaved families and support them under such tough time, he added.

At least 22 miners were killed on Wednesday in a huge explosion in the Zemestanyurt coal mine in the northeastern province of Golestan.

According to reports coming from the scene of the dealy incident, 35 miners have been entrapped in the coal mine.

Bodies of 22 victims have so far been transferred outside of the mine.

Zemestanyurt coal mine in Azadshahr region is situated 90 km east of the provincial capital city of Gorgan.

The provincial officials have announced three days of mourning here on the sad event.
