Russian expert hails growing trend in Tehran-Moscow ties

Russia considers Iran as its strategic partner in the region and ties between the two nations are built upon such a fact, Igor Korotchenko a military expert at Russia’s ministry of defense told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Saturday.

“Moscow attempts to enhance its ties and cooperation with Tehran in important spheres, including politics, economy, trade, industry and energy,” Korotchenko said.

The editor-in-chief of National Defense journal also said that Iran plays an influential role in the Syrian issue and fighting terrorism in the Middle East and has close ties with Russia.

President Putin and President Rouhani are expected to mull over bilateral ties between Iran and Russia as well as the crisis in Syria and the issue of global terrorism, Korotchenko said.

Russia considers Iran to be its partner and close friend and Kremlin is not going to cut Iran ties based on pledges made by other countries, the Russia expert said.

Trying to persuade Moscow to distance itself from Tehran has no use, he said.
