Russia, China condemn staging of chemical attack in Syria

During the meeting, Russian president's envoy for Syria affairs Mikhail Bogdanov and Chinese special envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan expressed satisfaction with the level of coordination between Moscow and Beijing for finding a solution to the Syrian crisis.

The two men said both Russia and China were unanimous in rejecting as unacceptable the claim about use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government and in condemning the recent military strikes against that country carried out without the permit of the UN Security Council.

The two sides underlined the necessity of launching careful and transparent investigation into the alleged use of chemical weapons in the city of Douma, Syria, according to the standards of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Mikhail Bogdanov and Xie Xiaoyan underlined their countries' commitment to settle the Syrian crisis as soon as possible within the framework of the Geneva and Astana talks and based on the UN resolution 2254.

Syrian terrorists claim that the Syrian government targeted the Douma city with chemical bombs on April 7 as a result of which 75 people were killed and scores of others wounded. The Syrian government has categorically rejected the claim.

Under an agreement reached in 2014, Syria delivered all its chemical weaponry to the representatives of the United Nations and OPCW and no document has been offered so far to show Damascus' breach of the agreement.
