Rafsanjani a supporter of int'l peace, understanding: Irish pres.

Higgins attended Iran's Embassy in Dublin to condole demise of the late Ayatollah Rafsanjani and wrote the sentence on the memorial book that opened there.

He also conveyed condolences of the Irish nation and government to the Iranian nation and government.

After signing the memorial book, Higgins told Irish TV Channel III that Iran's ties with western states are very significant and Ireland favors boosting ties with the country.

Expressing pleasure over Iran's nuclear deal, he said Iran is a significant country in a sensitive region and Ireland welcomes promoting relations with the country.

Iran's Ambassador in Dublin Javad Kachoueian also welcomed the president and voiced Iran's readiness for promoting cooperation with Ireland.
