Quds Day opportunity for showing Muslims solidarity

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on August 7, 1979, designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the Quds Day and the day of Islam's life.

To date, not only the Iranians, but also all the freedom-seekers of the world in many countries have marked the last Friday of Ramadan every year by holding demonstrations, to declare their solidarity with the Palestinians and support for their lawful rights.

This year, the day will be marked amid a new wave of atrocities by the Zionist regime of Israel against Palestinians in Gaza. The Israeli forces have suppressed the rallies of inhabitants of Gaza against the 11-year blockade. The Palestinians are also calling for their right to return to their lands that the Israeli regime has occupied.

The US move in opening its embassy in Quds as a sign of recognition of the holy city as the capital of the Zionist regime fuelled the protests. On the same day (May 14), at least 60 Palestinian protestors were killed by Israeli forces.

Since the late March when the protests began, at least 115 Palestinians have been killed by live munitions of Israeli forces, and thousands have been injured.

The cruelty and illegal measures of Tel Aviv, and the US as its main sponsor, have prompted Muslim leaders, particularly the Iranians, to emphasize the importance of the Quds Day this year for confronting the oppression.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini (June 4) called for marking Quds Day more gloriously than ever.

Calling on the Arab youth in the region, he said that participation in the rallies and defending the Palestinians, are important steps toward making the future better.

Leaders in Palestine, in Yemen and in other parts of the world have also urged a big turnout in the rallies.

Today, the Muslims have the opportunity to declare that despite the hipocricy of some states and Arab leaders in appeasing the Zionist regime, they will not let the Palestine cause be forgotten.
