Protests in some Pakistan cities following PM disqualification

Punjab Province is the power hub of 'Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz'(PMLN), the ruling party of Pakistan under leadership of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The protesters also reiterated their support to Nawaz Sharif and his party.

The protests, which remained peaceful, were held in different areas of Lahore and Faisalabad, where protestors also burnt tires, disrupting traffic.

Meanwhile, traffic wardens and Lahore city police were deployed at important roundabouts and buildings to maintain flow of traffic and protect property in case of any untoward incident.

Workers and supporters of both opposition and ruling parties took to the street to either condemn or celebrate the supreme court decision in which former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had been disqualified for hiding his real assets values.

As Lahore is considered a fortress of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), ministers, party leaders, local government representatives along with party workers took to the streets to register their protest against the verdict.

They condemned and rejected the court’s decision by burning tires and chanting slogans against the decision.

The Supreme Court on Friday disqualified Nawaz Sharif as prime minister from holding office in a landmark decision after a corruption probe into his family wealth, cutting short his third stint in power.
