Presidential candidate compares Iranian sects to rainbow

He made the remarks in a gathering of Iranian sunnis in the capital, Tehran.

The presidential candidate admired the incumbent government’s decision for choosing Sunni envoy.

The current government of Hassan Rouhani appointed Saleh Adibi who is an Iranian Sunni diplomat as Iran ambassador to Hanoi.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jahangiri said, “We promoted Sunni people to various posts, including high-ranking posts in the Interior Ministry and governorates and we will continue this approach.”

He pointed to Iran’s difficult condition in the international scene before the current government, adding that the nuclear agreement prepared the ground for development of ties with the world.

The turbulent economic conditions changed and now the economy is stable, Jahangiri said.

He also welcomed teaching local languages in the country, including Balochi, Kurdish and Turkish languages, and said that Iranian borders are Iran’s opportunities.

Ebrahim Raeisi, custodian of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine, Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former minister of culture and Islamic guidance Mostafa Mirsalim and former minister of physical education Mostafa Hashemi Taba, as well as President Hassan Rouhani are the six candidates to run for presidency in the forthcoming presidential elections.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution which led to the fall of the Pahlavi regime, Iran has held one election each year on average, all of which have witnessed large turnout of the people.

Over 56 million Iranians are eligible to vote in Iran's 12th presidential elections, according to Ali Asghar Ahmadi, head of the Election Headquarters of the Interior Ministry.
