President: Terrorists behind border incident should go on trial

Iran has always attached importance to stability, security and progress of friend county of Pakistan, the president said.

He expressed his deep sorrow for martyrdom of Iranian border guards by the 'recruited terrorists' who use the Pakistani side of the border to carry out their attacks.

Iran-Pakistan borders have always been peace borders and the people residing there have peaceful co-existence with each other, the president added.

President Rouhani said Iran’s territory has never been used for attacking its neighbors including Pakistan, but outlaws have repeatedly used the Pakistan soil to launch attacks against Iranian border guards which have claimed several lives of guards and civilians.

Despite Pakistani officials’ previous promises to control the borders with Iran, terrorist attacks against Iranian border guards continue to happen, the president added.

President Rouhani referred to the proxy wars in the region and said, “Unfortunately, certain countries are using proxy wars to damage unity in the Islamic world.”

Certain countries are manipulating terrorist actions to bring violence, insecurity, poverty and backwardness to Islamic countries and prevent their progress, welfare and dignity, President Rouhani noted.

On Wednesday evening, 9 Iranian border guards were martyred during an ambush attack by terrorists.

The guards were reportedly killed while patrolling in the city of Mirjaveh in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan near Pakistan border.

Mirjaveh is located 75 km east of the provincial capital city of Zahedan.
