President Rouhani receives new Portuguese envoy in Tehran

During the meeting, the president underlined expansion of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Portugal and the European Union, adding that there is no obstacle in the way of development and consolidation of ties between Tehran and Lisbon.

President Rouhani said that the two countries have plenty of capacities for strengthening of cooperation, which should be used, adding that it is necessary that bilateral cooperation not only in the field of politico-economic, but in the fields of culture, science, technology and academic to be expanded as well.

He also called strengthening cooperation in the field of industry and energy as necessary between the two countries, and added that private sectors of Iran and Portugal have wide capacities for joint venture projects and may create a big move in bilateral relations.

'Figures shown that a growing trend has been created in bilateral relations, but totally these moves are not equal to the existing capacities between the two countries,' President added.

Portugal by strengthening banking and insurance cooperation may use opportunities created by JCPOA and accelerate economic cooperation between the two countries.

President Rouhani said terrorism is a danger for the whole world, adding that fight against terrorism and extremism necessitate a collective cooperation between countries and Iran is ready to cooperate in this concern with European Union.

Ambassador Joao Jose Corte Real, for his part, said that Lisbon intends to promote its relations with Tehran in all fields.

He said that following historical agreement of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) plenty of opportunities were created for Portugal and many other world countries to consolidate their ties with Tehran.

Corte Real expressed hope that during his tenure Tehran, Lisbon relations level be expanded in all fields.
