President meets families of mine explosion victims

A number of cabinet members and top officials accompany President during the trip.

President Rouhani toured the Zemestanyurt coal mine site by helicopter before his meeting with the families of mine explosion.

At least 26 miners were killed in a huge explosion in the Zemestanyurt coal mine on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters upon arrival at the airport, President Rouhani said that the reasons behind the deadly explosion of a coal mine in the city of Azadshahr would be carefully examined to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

President Rouhani arrived in Golestan province on Sunday to personally visit the site of the deadly explosion of a coal mine in the city of Azadshahr.

Upon arrival, President Rouhani was warmly welcomed by a number of provincial officials at Gorgan International Airport.

Zemestanyurt coal mine in Azadshahr region is situated 90 km east of the provincial capital city of Gorgan.

Provincial officials have announced three days of mourning for the victims of the incident.
