
President Rouhani congratulated the occasion to the people and government of Côte d’Ivoire and wished them health, prosperity and success.
After being controlled by the French as a colony since the end of the 1880s, Côte d’Ivoire acquired its independence on August 7, 1960. Félix Houphouët-Boigny was its first president and remained as such until his death in December 1993. On August 7, Ivorians celebrate their independence from France.
Côte d’Ivoire is a French-speaking country and has requested that it officially be called Côte d’Ivoire by everyone, even those with English as a first language.
