“Lisbon tries to expand bilateral ties between Iran and Portugal in all aspects and is capable of cooperation especially in trade, tourism and academic sectors,” said Júlio Vilela, Director-General for Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities on Tuesday in a meeting Mostafa Kavakebian, head of the Iranian-Portuguese parliamentary friendship group in Tehran.
He stressed that moving towards a visa-free regime for both countries' politicians, that possess political passports, is a very effective way in consolidating bilateral relations and upgrading them.
For his part, Kavakebian called for easier processes for ordinary Iranians to receive Portuguese visas.
The Iranian lawmaker stressed the importance of further expansion of ties between Tehran and Lisbon, saying the two nations are enjoying long-time economic and commercial relationships.
He also urged Portuguese authorities to go ahead with further developing relations with Iran regardless of the US pressure and sanctions.
