Portugal is to broaden cooperation with Iran through removal of banking hurdles

The Portuguese envoy said in a meeting with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Portuguese diplomat, heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, is now in Tehran to mull expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Lisbon welcomes expansion of mutual and regional cooperation with Iran and tries to remove economic hurdles to further bolster and broaden economic cooperation with Tehran, he said.

'The status of Iran in the region in resolving regional disputes and dealing with the threats posed by terrorist groups are of prime importance,' he said.

Takht Ravanchi, for his part, highlighted Iran’s economic potentials in various fields, and said grounds are well-prepared in energy, tourism, agriculture, technological know-how and academic affairs.

On the US attack on an airbase in Syria, he strongly condemned the move which was against principled international rights and underlined that the international community should not remain indifferent towards such issues.

In the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments while examining expansion of mutual relations.
