Polling ends in Iran, voters still waiting to cast ballots

Voting started at 8am (03:30 GMT) in 63,500 polling stations throughout Iran on Friday morning and was supposed to end at 18pm (13:30 GMT) but it has been extended for three times until midnight (07:30 GMT).

However, a large number of voters standing in long lines failed to cast their ballots in certain polling stations in Tehran including in three major stations in north and east of the capital.

Similar cases were also reported in Golestan, Ilam, Yazd, Kordestan, Chahar Mahal-Bakhtiari, Markazi provinces where people failed to vote due to the expiry of voting period.

The Guardians Council Spokesman Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei has earlier said that counting votes will start immediately after the voting ends.
