Palestine’s Abbas discusses dangers of moving US embassy to Jerusalem with Pakistani PM

Addressing a joint press briefing with Pakistani PM the Palestinian leader said the effects of the settlement activity on the Palestinian land was also came under discussion during the two leaders’ meeting.

US President Donald Trump during his election campaign has announced to move the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas has reached Pakistan on a three-day visit to hold talks with Pakistani leadership over diverse issues.

During the press conference Mahmoud Abbas said that he has briefed the Pakistani Prime Minister about the latest situation of Palestine issue.

Palestinian Authority chief said that a joint committee should be formed to further strengthen the ties between Pakistan and Palestine.

He thanked the government of Pakistan for providing financial assistance to Palestine to establish new embassy building in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the occasion said Pakistan is firm in its support for the just cause of Palestinian people.

He urged the international community to play its role in just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Nawaz Sharif said ensuring peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without just settlement of the Palestine issue.

Earlier, formal welcome ceremony for the visiting Palestinian Authority chief was held at Prime Minister House in Islamabad today.

Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation will also meet President Mamnoon Hussain to discuss bilateral political matters as well as other issues of common interest.

He will inaugurate the newly constructed Palestine Embassy Complex in Islamabad.

This is Mahmoud Abbas’s third visit to Pakistan. He has previously been to Pakistan in 2005 and 2013.
