Pakistan religious scholars ready to help ease Iran-Saudi tensions

National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua, Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pir Muhammad Amin Ul Hasnat Shah and a number of religious scholars and leaders from different sects and schools of thought attended a meeting of “National Ulema Council” in Islamabad.

The conference was held to promote sectarian harmony in the country as well as the Islamic world.

Pakistani officials and religious scholars attending the conference stressed the need for forging unity among the Muslim Ummah to fight challenges being faced by the Islamic countries.

The meeting also adopted a unanimous resolution saying that a high level delegation comprising of religious scholars should visit Iran and Saudi Arabia and urge both countries to resolve their differences through dialogue.

The resolution also said that a delegation to be led by minister of religious affairs and interfaith harmony would be sent to northwestern city of Parachinar to sympathize with the Shia community of the city after the recent deadly terrorist blast killed over 100 there.

It said that the law to control sectarianism in the country should be fully implemented.

Addressing the meeting, Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Muhammad Amin Ul Hasnat Shah urged religious scholars to play their due role in promotion of sectarian harmony in the country.

He said the terrorists have no religion or sect, but trying to create sectarian problems for Pakistan.

Deploring recent terrorist attacks in Parachinar which killed more than 100 people, the minister said certain elements are hatching conspiracy to impede the development process in the country.

In his address, National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua said Parachinar incident has aggrieved the entire nation.

Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf presided over the conference while representatives of religious and political organizations as well as delegates from different groups and parties also attended the conference.
