Daesh terrorist group will never be allowed to have presence in Pakistan, Pakistan Army Spokesperson Asim Bajwa said while briefing the media in Islamabad on Thursday.
'We created a comprehensive intelligence picture and saw that Daesh was trying to come into Pakistan. They organized themselves into two groups, 'planning wing' and 'militant wing' and were trying to get local criminal and terrorist groups to join them,' said Bajwa.
He said about 309 people who were part of the Daesh terrorist group, including Afghans and people of Middle Eastern origin, have been arrested so far.
The group had planned two attacks in the capital's diplomatic enclave, particularly on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on foreign embassies, consulates and their employees, the spokesperson said.
He said Daesh had also planned to target Islamabad airport and prominent public figures.
The Pakistani government and Army have repeatedly denied organized presence of Daesh terrorists in the country.
Yet, there have been reports recently by the Pakistani media and local authorities suggesting activities of Daesh in the country.
