Pak top official: Iran-Pak border commission to meet this month

Responding to a question by IRNA on Wednesday, he said that Iran and Pakistan have agreed to create a new border management commission with four members each to sort out border issues.

“We are about to nominate our members and we hope the commission will meet within this month to make sure such incidents may not happen again and any complaints that comes in can be sorted out at the local level and if necessary at the political level,” he said.

To another question, he said that Pakistan also expressed its concerns on the recent border incident but Iran believes that Jaish-ul-Adl like terrorist organizations carry out these activities from our side of the border, that is why when Iranian Foreign Minister came here both countries agreed to strengthen border mechanism and establish hotlines.

He said that sometimes smugglers and terrorists do carry out activities on Iran-Pak border, but there should be no impression that such activities are being sponsored by anyone.

“It is our priority to make the border safer and secure so that no vacuum could be created for undesirable elements,” he said.

He said that neither Iran nor Afghanistan are enemies of Pakistan.

On April 26, nine Iranian border guards were martyred and two others injured by terrorists near Pakistan border in southeastern province of Sistan-Balouchestan, when they were patrolling at the zero border point. The terrorists after the killings and abducting one Iranian border guard fled to Pakistan’s territories.

Last week Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Pakistan and met with Pakistani civil and military leadership to have better cooperation between the two countries on recent border incident.
