Official: Old gaps between Western powers have recurred

Writing on his official Instagram page, Rezaei referred to recent remarks by German Chancellor Angela Merkel voicing Europe’s disappointment with the US and Britain.

Ms. Merkel announced that Europe cannot count on the US and Britain any more, Rezaei said.

The icy encounter of Macron and Trump, the tension in the meeting of seven world industrial countries and the British exit from the European Union are all indicative of a new approach in the 70-year-old cooperation of Western countries, Rezaei added.

He said that Iran has to make use of the newly-emerged gaps for its foreign policy.

Referring to Trump’s sword dance with Saudi leaders, Rezaei said, “We are not afraid of real sword, let alone of sword dance.”
