Mahmoud Al-Habbash was quoted by Wafa, the Palestinian News Agency, as saying during a Friday Prayer sermon in the city of Ramallah in the West Bank, that the plan by President-elect Donald Trump to move the US embassy to the city of Al-Quds is not acceptable.
'We, Muslims are not going to be as passive onlookers,' Al-Habbash was quoted as saying.
He said that the city of Al-Quds is not a venue for political bargaining.
Negotiations and reckonings usually tend to have a political nature and such issues have no place in religious, ideological and historical contexts, he was quoted as saying.
'We cannot deprive people of visiting Al-Quds and all the monotheist believers are welcomed to the city,' Al-Habbash said.
'We believe in the freedom of religion, freedom of thought and freedom of religious practices,' he said.
'What we do not believe in,' Al-Habbash was quoted as saying, 'is that Al-Quds cannot be separated from the Muslim essence and spirit.'
And this is going to have a clear message, he said.
