Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah in a meeting with a number of foreign ambassadors residing in Kuwait, including Iran’s Ambassador Alireza Enayati, called for their countries’ support for membership of Kuwait in the UN Security Council.
Currently, Kuwait is member of the UN Human Rights Council and has been chosen as a center for humanitarian activities and is trying to use such appropriate opportunity and become member of the UN Security Council for second time.
Kuwait also made wide consultations with Asia-Pacific organizations and bodies in the UN to receive their support and agreement for its membership in the council.
In the year 1978, Kuwait became a member of the UNSC.
In addition to Asia-Pacific states, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League (AL) have declared their support for Kuwait membership in the UNSC.
