IRNA chief calls for broadening of Tehran-Baku ties

'Iranian government attaches an especial importance to the development of relations with Azerbaijan Republic,' Managing Director of IRNA Zia Hashemi said in a meeting with Azeri envoy to Iran Bonyad Hosseinov.

'We should root out the obstacles in the way of development of relations and adopt measures to resolve the challenges,' he added.

The IRNA chief urged the regional countries to pay attention to their commonalities and avoid misunderstandings.

The two countries enjoy large capacities for cooperation in the fields of tourism and exchange of students.

During the meeting, the Azeri envoy, for his part, referred to high level of relations between the Iranian people and officials, and said that both countries have been sided with each other in difficult days.

'Some are trying to sabotage good relations between the two countries but we should be vigilant and we have been successful in this regard till now,' he added.

Hosseinov lauded cooperation between Tehran and Baku in various fields, including transit, automobile manufacturing and pharmacy.

The envoy called for elevation of media cooperation between the Iranian and Azeri media, and urged exchange of photos and holding joint photo exhibitions.
