Iraq's Hakim congratulates Rouhani's re-election

In a message on Saturday, the Iraqi senior official also hoped that Tehran-Baghdad historic relations will further be improved during Rouhani's next term in office.

We expect Rouhani’s re-election will help promote historic ties in line with the interests of the two neighboring states and restore regional and global peace, he said.

Ammar Hakim had earlier announced that his country would respect Iranians' choice in Iran’s May 19 presidential election.

Incumbent President Rouhani won the presidential elections in a landslide victory winning over 23 million votes (57% of total counted votes).

More than 70 percent of eligible voters participated in the election held in Iran and 102 countries across the world on Friday.
