Iran’s FM Meets Indonesian President, Malaysian Counterpart

Zarif, who is representing Iran in the extraordinary OIC session, met with President Widodo and submitted a message Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had written in reply to his Indonesian counterpart’s previous message.

During the meeting, the two sides conferred on the growing ties between Tehran and Jakarta as well as regional issues.

Zarif also attended a ceremony on the sidelines of the OIC meeting, during which Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi gifted her Iranian counterpart a painting named “Contemplation on Muzdalifah” by famous Indonesian painter Jeihan Sukmantoro.

The Iranian foreign minister also met his Malaysian counterpart and discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties and mutual cooperation, particularly in economic fields.

The two countries’ foreign ministers also talked about problems in the Muslim world and regional issues.

Zarif arrived in Jakarta on Sunday morning to participate in the OIC meeting.

Indonesia is the first destination of his tour of six countries, which will later take him to Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.
