Iranian, Russian Deputy FMs Discuss Syria Truce

During the meeting in Moscow, "a detailed exchange of views was held on a range of political settlement issues in Syria in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the International Syria Support Group decisions, including in the context of the task of maintaining the cessation of hostilities and ensuring the inclusiveness of the intra-Syrian negotiating process in Geneva," Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry added that Bogdanov and Amir-Abdollahian discussed a range of other issues on the regional agenda, including developments in Yemen, Libya, Iraq and the Palestinian territories, Sputnik reported.

The talks came after foreign-backed militants shelled two mosques, a hospital and several neighborhoods in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, killing dozens of people and injuring many others.

Over the past few days, terrorist groups operating in Syria have conducted rocket attacks on several government-controlled neighborhoods in Aleppo, leaving heavy casualties and a ceasefire deal in tatters.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
