Iranian lawmakers to counter US Senate decision within days

Member of Majlis (Parliament) presiding board Akbar Ranjbarzade told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday.

The draft of the plan has been handed over by Majlis Research Center to parliamentary factions.

The double-urgent plan aims at confronting Senate hostile acts, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission spokesman Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Saturday.

The urgent plan consists of 10 sections such as US support of terrorism, human rights violations in the US, supporting Iran Armed Forces, countering US economic sanctions, and supporting Iranian nationals, Head of Majlis (parliament) Research Center Kazem Jalali had earlier said.

Majlis speaker Ali Larijani on June 11 session urged National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to prepare the mentioned plan.

On June 15, the US Senate voted for a legislation to impose non-nuclear sanctions on Iran for its defense missile programs. They voted 98-2 in favor of the legislation.

Bipartisan negotiations also led to the bill including expanded sanctions on Russia, in response to its alleged intrusion into Ukraine, efforts to meddle in the 2016 election and its support for the Syrian government.

Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky and Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, were only two 'no' votes.
