Iranian Embassy criticizes selective photos to stir up Afghan outcry

Publication of the selective photos and reflection of untrue news about the police measures to deal with unauthorized immigrants and the hasty issuance of a statement by the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations made the Afghan people untruly imagine that their compatriots have been put in a cage and put on public display, the statement said.

It said that the photos depicted the people under arrest being held in an open area behind fences. The Embassy made it clear that they were never placed in a cage.

The statement added that the people who were not necessarily from Afghanistan, were arrested for illegal entry into the Iranian soil and were not immigrants or refugees.

Their arrest was based on domestic law of the Islamic Republic of Iran and nothing against the international conventions or the bilateral agreements has taken place, said the statement.
