Iranian diplomat, UN envoy meet in Astana

Jaberi Ansari is in Astana heading a delegation to take part in intra-Syrian talks.

Ansari pointed to measures taken and consultations held by Tehran, Moscow and Ankara for Astana meeting success and the focus on the need for UN active role in facilitating intra-Syrian talks, announcing that Iran, Moscow and Turkey trilateral efforts is not an alternative to the International Syria Support Group (ISSG).

'De Mistura also emphasized United Nations' readiness to facilitate negotiations between Syrian government and the armed groups, expressing hope for the meeting to help maintain the truce and pave the way to find political solution for Syria crisis' according to Ansari's Telegram Channel.

The negotiations between Syrian delegations and the armed groups will start with the attendance of 7 delegations including Iran, Russia and Turkey on Monday in Astana.

The 2-day negotiations will be held with the attendance of Syrian delegations, opposition groups, UN and US ambassador to Kazakhstan today and tomorrow in Astana.

The event aims at reinforcing and sustaining the truce which has been established in Syria since December 30 and to find political solutions for the Syria crisis.

Iranian, Russian and Turkish delegations holding several bilateral and trilateral talks in Astana on Sunday and Monday consulted on establishing more coordination aiming at increasing success chance in negotiations.

Participants also prepred the plan of armed Syrian opposition groups' presence in Astana talks and unarmed oppositions in the upcoming meeting.

Astana meeting has been planned to remove obstacles on the way of resuming Syrian peace talks in Geneva which has been stopped by sabotage of armed Syrian opposition groups.

Iranian delegation arrived in Astana Saturday morning to take part in the talks attended by the representatives Russia, Turkey, and the Syrian government, non-terrorist opposition groups and the United Nations.
