President Rouhani made the remarks in a phone conversation with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
President Rouhani said Iran considers the terrorist and extremist groups as major threat to the friendly and neighboring country, Afghanistan, and the entire region as well.
Rouhani offered congratulation to the Afghan president on Eid al-Fitr.
'Stable and secure Afghanistan that continues to tread the path of progress and prosperity is the wish of the Iranian government and nation. All should join hands for perseverance of the National Unity Government in Afghanistan and materialization of the wish.'
Iranian nation and government are concerned about the terrorist attacks and killing of the innocent people of Afghanistan, President Rouhani said, wishing success for the government and people of Afghanistan in fighting the terrorist groups.
'We hope that terrorist groups would understand they are wrong and is a treason to the good people of Afghanistan and the region and that the holy religion of Islam has invited all to brotherhood and unity and takes bloodshed as the biggest crime against humanity.'
He referred to the need for activation of the joint economic commission of the two countries with an aim to bring about change in economic vibrancy.
'The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined for expansion of Tehran-Kabul relations. Activation of the joint economic commission will play an important role in this line.'
Ghani for his part, said Afghanistan is willing to expand cooperation with Iran in all fields.
Referring to the need for expansion of Iran-Afghanistan economic relations, Ghani said that a good framework was drawn up for expansion of bilateral, trilateral and regional cooperation, aiming to lead to positive change in transit of cargo and commercial investment with further activation of Chabahar Port.
He briefed President Rouhani on the latest developments in Afghanistan and the international campaign against terrorism, saying that the Afghan government works to bolster foundations of security and defense of Afghanistan.
