Iran strong, powerful country: Serbian MP

In a meeting with the visiting Head of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Foreign Policy and National Security Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Wednesday, the Serbian lawmaker added that Tehran-Belgrade cooperation in the international organizations as well as the annual meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is significant.

Omerovic called for promoting economic and technical cooperation between the two countries, voicing Serbian parliament’s readiness for further bolstering of mutual cooperation.

Welcoming periodical meetings of parliamentary friendship groups, he invited Iran-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group in Iran’s Majlis to visit Belgrade.

Meanwhile, Boroujerdi said parliamentary friendship groups are among effective institutes helping promote bilateral ties.

He called for holding periodical meetings of parliamentary friendship groups in the two countries’ parliaments.

Majlis plays a unique role in Iran’s political structure, he said, noting that Iran’s Majlis is among the few parliaments which is not dissolvable and enjoys highest authorities to supervise the government.

Borojerdi left Tehran for Belgrade on Tuesday for a visit which aimed at reinforcing parliamentary ties and developing economic and political interactions between the two countries.
