Iranian Foreign Minister's Special Assistant for Political Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Russian President's Special envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal, and the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura held a meeting in Geneva, on Tuesday, September 11 and discussed the Syria crisis, said Iran Foreign Ministry's website.
The three guarantor states of the Syria peace process and the United Nations concluded the meeting with stressing continued cooperation in the political process to resolve the Syrian crisis and to facilitate the formation of Syrian constitutional committee.
According to Turkish media, in the process of resolving the Syrian crisis and focusing on the formation of the constitutional committee lists, the following were emphasized by the parties:
1. The political process must be intra-Syrian and it must respect Syria's sovereignty.
2. The constitutional committee must be set up so as it would be acceptable to all parties and also based on the realities in Syria.
3. All the details pertaining to the constitutional committee must be agreed upon in the form of an integrated package.
4. Syrian constitutional arrangements are time-consuming due to the sensitivity of the issue and the consequences of the country's years-long crisis, and both speed and quality must be taken into account.
The representatives of Iran, Turkey and Russia agreed setting up a technical work group consisting of experts will ensure the success of joint consultations with the United Nations to facilitate the formation of the Syrian constitutional committee.
The presidents of Iran, Russia, and Turkey agreed to establish the Syrian constitutional committee at a meeting held December last year in Sochi.
