Iran, Russia special envoys to Syria meet in Kazakhstan

The sixth round of Astana talks is underway in the Kazakh capital, Astana.

Writing in a telegram post, Jaberi Ansari said that his meeting with Lavrentiev took place on Thursday one day after the meeting between Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Vladimir Putin in the Russian city of Sochi.

Iran's top negotiator in the Astana Process and his Russian counterpart examined latest developments in Syria.
The general meeting of the two-day event is expected to take place on Friday.

Delegations from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Turkey, Syria along with Syrian opponents, UN delegation and observer countries will partake in the two day talks in Astana.
