Iran, Russia presidents’ talks crucial for region: Russian expert

The professor of the Institute of World Politics and the Soviet Union cultural attaché in Tehran, Gennady Avdeev told IRNA on Monday that Hassan Rouhani and Vladimir Putin are to hold talks during the critical condition of the Middle East and while terrorists are active in this strategic region.

“In the framework of Iran-Russia close cooperation, Syria survived from falling into the abyss caused by the West,” he said.

Russian expert stressed on the need to continue regional cooperation of Tehran and Moscow, saying that the opposition forces in Syria had shaped a tragic destiny for the country.

Avdeev said that Iran-Russia cooperation with Iraq has brought about positive results.

Russian expert said a broad spectrum of issues related to bilateral cooperation especially in the areas of economy, trade, energy, advanced technologies, industry, and aerospace will be discussed during President Rohani’s two-day trip.

He pointed to Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s strong view on developing ties between Iran and Russia, saying that the Leader’s support will facilitate solving problems on the way of achieving planned goals in expanding cooperation.
