Iran rejects any change in nuclear deal: Security chief

Iran and the major world powers signed a nuclear agreement in 2015, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), under which Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Despite the frequent verifications by the international nuclear watchdog, IAEA, on Iran's commitment to the deal, the US has threatened that it will withdraw from the deal unless its 'disastrous flaws' are fixed.

Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani in a meeting with Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on Saturday described the disloyalty and illegal measures by the US on the international agreement and the silence of the Europe in face of Washington as a clear sign of the necessity of the focus by the countries in the region on finding a local solution to problems and crises.

'Iran will not accept any change, new interpretation or any measure that contains the JCPOA,' Shamkhani said.

Warning that the Europe is playing into the US and the Zionist regime's hands, and referring their positive response to their bullying under the pretext of preserving JCPOA security, he said, 'Iran's defense capabilities, particularly its missile program which is of a deterrent nature, will be furthered seriously on the basis of the country's national security, and the media and political propaganda will not affect its continuance.'

The Omani official who is visiting Tehran said that his country considers Iran as its trustworthy neighbor and partner, and hails the role it plays in establishing stability and security in the region.
