Iran protests US' sanctions on its shipping

In a letter to the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Iranian embassy in London condemned the US' move to impose unilateral sanctions against Iran shipping, Iranian ambassador to London Hamid Baeidinejad said in a message posted on his telegram account on Thursday.

In the letter to the IMO Chief, the Iranian embassy described the US' measure as in violation of international maritime treaties and a move that endangers safe navigation, the Iranian envoy added.

The Iranian embassy urged the IMO Assembly to conduct an extensive investigation into the case, he noted.

Baeidinejad referred to the US State Department Iran Action Group Coordinator Brian Hook's claims in that connection and said that Iranian ships will continue shipping in spite of Washington's illegal demand.

He noted that the US will be responsible for the consequences of any incident in the sea.

Hook in a press briefing on Wednesday warned other countries against the risk of transit of Iranian tankers through their waterways.
