Iran President's envoy meets Malaysia's PM

Masoumeh Ebtekar delivered the message of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani to PM Mahathir and congratulated him on his victory in the recent election.

The Pakatan Harapan bloc led by Mahathir Mohamad won a simple majority in parliament in May elections and won 122 out of 222 seats, enough to form the next government and to oust Najib Razak.

Ebtekar is the first Iranian official who visits Malaysia since the election in the country that led to the victory of Mahathir Mohammad.

The Malaysian prime minister on his part emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation. The two sides also discussed regional and international issues.

Ebtekar, vice president for women's affairs of Iran has already met with Malaysia's Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

They have discussed governmental and international developments, as well as bilateral relations.

Iran and Malaysia have been enjoying bilateral political-economic ties since 1966.
