Iran MP calls for 'security mechanism' with Europe

Iran should enter serious talks with Europe, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, a member of Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Iran is not a threat to Europe, as it has not been in the past and has always dealt with the European concerns seriously, he said.

Iran and Europe, the MP added, are very close in different security elements including the phenomenon of Daesh (ISIS.)

If there were not Iran's counter-Daesh efforts, this terrorist group would reach the European borders, the parliamentarian stressed.

Speaking about Iran's missile program, the lawmaker said Tehran can adopt kind of measures to make the Europeans be supporter of the program because Iran's missiles can prevent threats from heading to the green continent.

Asked about the US president's new executive picks, Falahatpisheh said Donald Trump is attracting the most extremist politicians to his administration.

Such appointments in the United States may have side effects not only on Iran but also on the world, said the lawmaker referring to the newly appointed US national security advisor John Bolton as an improper choice because he has a radical attitude toward China and Russia and even Saudi Arabia.

About the designated US security advisor, Falahatpisheh said Bolton believes that his country should use its power tools more.

Under the pretext of Iran's missile program which is completely for the defensive purposes, he said, the US wants to damage the July 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Iran and the world powers.

The Americans are just thinking about posing challenges to Iran because they cannot face military challenges in the present condition, he added.

Also to question about the issue of Zionist regime, the member of parliament said European countries endeavor to adjust the regime's aggressive behavior in the region.
