The Special Purpose Vehicle is a non-dollar payment channel created by Europe to keep trade flowing with Iran in defiance of US sanctions.
“The Europeans as the main benficiary should think about the consequences of the decision, as Iran has so far fulfilled all its commitments under the JCPOA,” he said, noting that Iran’s patience is wearing thin and it is time for the EU to take its strategic decision.
The EU showed positive political will in creating SPV, but it is currently felt that they face a serious incapability in enforcing it, Qasemi said.
“Dollar dominance as well as interconnection of the EU and US economies are among the reasons behind SPV delay, he said, noting that the EU and three countries favoring SPV are also captive and hostage of the US economy in JCPOA,” the official said, noting that they should take decision for their independence.
They should pay for their economic independence from the US, as such a major task cannot be priceless, he said.
Describing the US obstructionism as a major reason for delay in enforcing JCPOA, Qasemi added that repeated threats of EU economic and commercial enterprises by the US was the major factor leading to tardiness in implementation of the SPV.
In reaction to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks that sanctions are in favor of the people, Qaemi said that he is speaking more than needed and unfortunately he does not use experienced counselors to provide him with a better understanding about the Iranian nation and region.
Noting that his statements are void of logic and knowledge about the international developments, the spokesman said that Pompeo has linked Iran’s launching of satellite to space which was a totally peaceful and scientific move to the issue of missiles, while no resolution of the UN Security Council bans Iran from such measures.
“Iran as an independent country is following up its progress and development using its own young thinkers,” he said, adding that Iran’s missile capabilities are totally of defensive and deterrent nature, which in no way contradicts UNSC Resolution 2231.
The US sanctions against the Iranian people are totally wrong, he said, wondering how is that they talk about improvement of the public life in Iran while impose strictest sanctions on them.
However, the Iranian nation will never surrender to such pressures and bullying, he said.
As to the insulting comments of British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt, Qasemi said that such words are not befitting the British government and its diplomatic apparatus.
“He is not in a position to use words such as ‘shame’ to scorn such a great Iranian nation and country,” he said.
If somebody is to shame, it is the British government that should feel shameful about its behavior, as it has adopted wrong policies in the region and other points in the world and sold a great deal of arms, Qasemi said.
