The meeting, which comes two days after the United States blacklisted the IRGC as a terrorist group, is aimed to signal support for the revolutionary forces.
IRGC Commander Major-General Mohammad-Ali Jafari, Commander of IRGC Quds Force Major-General Qasem Soleymani, Commander of IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier-General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh and Commander of IRGC Ground Force Mohammad Pakpour were the IRGC commanders present at the meeting with the foreign minister.
Arart from Foreign minister Zarif, his first deputy Morteza Sarmadi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi were also present at the meeting.
US President Donald Trump, in an unwise move on Monday, labeled IRGC which is a part of the country's official armed forces as a terrorist entity. 'The IRGC is the Iranian government’s primary means of directing and implementing its global terrorist campaign,” Trump said.
“We will continue to increase financial pressure and raise the costs on the Iranian regime for its support of terrorist activity until it abandons its malign and outlaw behavior,” Trump added.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was one of the first Iranian officials who reacted to the US move, calling on Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) to add American forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), to its terrorist groups' list.
In a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, he also called for a retaliatory move by labeling the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization and the US government as a terrorist sponsor.
Zarif described the move as 'another misguided election-eve gift to Netanyahu”.
